Some EU Member States extend non-EU VAT Refund claims deadlines due to COVID-19.

Some EU Member States extended the deadline for submitting non-EU VAT Refund claims. The delay to the refund claims, also known as 13th VAT Directive, is a measure to support businesses during the COVID-19 crisis.

The deadline for submitting 2019 VAT claims in most EU Member States is 30th June. Some countries extended the deadline to 30th September 2020 as part of their COVID-19 VAT measures. However, not all Member States adopted the same approach. For example, France officially extended the deadline for submission. Whereas German tax authorities accept late submission claims, but businesses must also provide meaningful explanation for missing the deadline.
