Tourism sector hopeful over French VAT cut

Wednesday July 1, 2009

France’s decision to cut VAT on restaurants and eateries of all kind could boost the country’s tourism sector, it has been suggested.

According to Cathy Ranking, UK sales and marketing manager for accommodation provider P&V, the move could encourage more Brits and other nationalities to visit the country on a break.

The reduction in VAT from 19.6 per cent to 5.5 per cent is set to come into force from today (July 1st).

Ms Rankin told Travelmole: "We are proactively trying to offset the effects of the weak pound by introducing ‘Eurobusting’ offers of up to 45 per cent off all of our properties in the summer break.

"The VAT cut in restaurants compliments this as many of our customers rely on good value local restaurant food during their stay."

News of the reduction in France has come after Angela Merkel, the chancellor of neighbouring Germany, revealed VAT will not be increased in the country.ADNFCR-2173-ID-19244934-ADNFCR
